Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love, please open your arms and envelope the talents of Emel Aykanat. Better known by her first name, this Turkish-Swiss singer-songwriter has capitalized on her international success, and is now bringing her prowess to the U.S. in her first show in one of America’s founding states.

Emel will headline her own multi-city tour for 11 dates, starting on May 3 in Washington, D.C. at the infamous DC9. For those unfamiliar with the “Somebody Dance With Me” crooner, Emel got her start as a background singer with Six Was Nine, a German pop-and-soul band. The experiences she learned during that time enabled her to develop her own sound, leading to three full-length studio albums and fans around the world.

Looking to increase her base here in the U.S., Emel’s date in Philadelphia (May 4) at the World Cafe Live is of significance to us here @Okayplayer because it is where future stars such as Jazmine Sullivan, Musiq Soulchild and Jill Scott all made their names. With that said, cop tickets to see the Swiss siren perform here + circle the date on your calendar to remember when Emel comes to a venue near you!

Listen to her “Ensen Dhaif” song below as well:
